  • Manual Trans help

I was driveing my car home last nite and my check engine pops on....(so I think to myself ill get that fixed tomm....) well I continue driveing and all ofa sudden it sounds like the Trans is poping and clicking.....well I pulled over and called a buddy to tow it to my mechanic....He glanced it over today and said it was def the trans but thats all he knew untill he took a better look at it.....well I was wandering if anyone knew what it could be. A few people thats heard it says it could be the univ joint or a tooth in the tranny has been knocked off. Just curious on what yall think it is.

If I push on the clutch the rattling/poping noise stops. I can also drive the car but it click and pops BAD.

When my tranny blew on my truck it made a funny clicking sound right before it blew so it possibly could be your tranny.. When my s10 tranny went i thought it was the u-joint/carrier bearing at first cause it kept feeling like something was hittin the underneath of my car but it turned out i practically destroyed the poor thing (to much fun in the snow).. Mine would let me drive it just fine but anything above 15mph i thought the whole car was gonna cripple. I would change the U-joints and carrier bearing (if u have a 2 piece) thats alot cheaper then dropping the tranny unless you can do it yourself. goodluck i hope its not your tranny, its an expensive fix unless you know someone..

I had a similar situation (no SES light) and mine was a bent 3/4 shift fork that caused a tooth to chip. I've had it happen twice. The first time I limped it back to work and as I was pulling into the parking lot when the tooth jammed in between some gears. It locked up the transmission which broke both input and output shafts and broke some other gears also. The mechanic was so shocked with the damage that he called me back to look at it. I wish I had a camera. They replaced the transmission for $100 (extended warranty deductable).

When it happened the second time, I just shut the engine off, clutched it and pulled over. I replaced that tranny with a $300 junk yard tranny.
