  • Finally got them m5 to A4 swap done

    Got the car Friday, the tech didn't have time to put in the shifter, so I had to pull the shifter cable to get it into Drive and what not. The upper mangement was sweating my dad about it being in the shop on the lift for the last 2 weeks, so they wanted it out of there. I don't blame them. The tech just did things here and there between jobs. So this weekend I installed the shifter and console and all the nitrous switches back in. Runs smooth but it seems not to have the get up and go as the M5 did. It does chirp the tires on hard shifts but it seems more of a cruiser now. I haven't used the nitrous yet with it since they said there was some blacklash in the rear. The tech tightened up the pinion bolt which helped some but there is still some noise. Will have to replace the rear at some point. I have never driven another camaro with an auto so it is all new to me. I did have the transgo shift kit put in and corvette servo installed before the tranny was put in. Does the m5 seem to have more get up and go because of the bigger 1st gear or do I just think it is slower because of the switch from the m5 to a4?

    congrats on the swap, as for m5s having more get up and go, ill let you know in a couple weeks haha

      Just curious and ignorant, so i'm asking in order to no longer be ignorant, Why'd you switch from a manual to an auto???

        Im guessing because he has big plans for the car and autos car take more thrashing? You'll find a lot of the guys who are into the drag racing stuff run autos.

          "I have had the T5 since I bought it it Dec. 95, I was ready to put in a Gforce tranny, but you never expect to have a stroke at the age of 32 from a hole in your heart(born at birth)PFO that can't be detected without running a camara into the heart. Then the side affects from the stroke which is left side weakness and spasisty of muscle crapping a pain throughtout the left side. Also having 25% of the right side of your brain dead including the nerves. Then the blood thinners to take every day so the hole in the heart doesn't pop out anymore clots to the brain. I have to take 16 pills a day. So I'll drive a slushbox to sum it up."

            Thats the main reason, and of course the A4 do take more power than the m5. Sucks blowing 3rd gear out. I'll be tuning the A4 for the nitrous shots here shortly. Tuned it a little more this evening and I take it back it does have the power, just not the 1st gear I'm use to.

              ohh ok. That makes a LOT of sense then. Thank you for informing me.

              Dang...that's a lot of stuff that happened for you to overcome. Bummer that happened to you. Kind of encouraging though to know you can still race fast!

                congrats on the swap, not to jack the thread but are you sellin any of the stuff from the T5 like the pedals, tranny? let me know cause im looking to go other way auto to manual ;)
