is it possible to use the 6 spd trans from a ss on the 3.4? if it is possible, would it be better than the m5 or worse? or does anyone even know?

iff you get a custom bell housing made...those 2 transmissions are so different its not worth it...besides the 1st gear is 2.66 and our 1st is 3.75 with a 2.19 2nd...try and launch your car in 2nd and tell me if you still want a M6

you could put a 6-speed in, and just change the rear gears to compensate for it...

-but average used 6-speed is ~$1k, and even then good chance its a broken one that needs to be rebuilt.

-you will need a custom input shaft, if you can find a shop that will do it, will be a couple hundred

-then you will need a custom adapter plate, this too will be custom from a machine shop and I think others have priced it out to like $500.

Then you would still have to do the work of putting it inyourself.

from those that really looked into I think the pricing was $2500-3500 for parts, and to do it themselves they were looking at another $1k for someone to do it.

then you would also have to change your rear gears to make up the difference for the gearing.

also the t56 is much heavier and has more moving parts and would likely slow you down.

so basically, if you want a 6-speed... your best bet is going out and buying a used lt1 for $3-4k :)

a v6 doesnt have enough torque to push a 6spd, you wouldnt even be able to use 6th gear

you would, as long as you changed the rear gears to compensate for it.

            you're right
just saying, it's not worth the trouble to put a 6spd on a v6. With the money you spend on a 6spd conversion, you could do so much more

changing your rear gears to 2.76 would give your 5 speed the same overall 1st and final gear ratios as a 94+ t-56 with 4.10's

Like I in my earlier post, its probably cheaper to buy a lt1 6-speed car then convert a 3.4L to a 5-speed.
