  • Thinking about 3.73's

Hey guys i have a 2002 camaro with 3.08s and a stock diff. What are the advantages of upgrading to 3.73s and do i need to go with a posi diff. Also what does this procedure usually cost, Gears, Shop Labor, Diff etc. Is this something i could do on my own or do i need to take it to the shop. Also what brand of gears and diff would you recommend?

    Thanks

Well now, If you wanted to do gears the easiest way, i would reccomend getting a rear end that already has posi and the right gears that u want. If you wanted to upgrade to posi you would have to have a LSD put into your differential with the correct gears wanted, but that would be really expensive, especially if you were gunna have a shop do it.

If you wanted to swap out rear ends yourself, that would be alot easier on money and you would have everything you need still.

I would not upgrade my gears personally without getting posi traction added, why because, you would have almost no more traction with the gears because your gear ratio with 3.73 would give u great acceleration(way better then your poopy 3.08's) Thus being said, you will burn out way more with the higher gears so i would highly reccomend the posi to be able to get that power and acceleration to the ground effitiantly. 2 wheels is alot better then 1.

With 3.73 gears installed u will notice a slight increase in mpg city, and a slight decrease in mpg on freeway(you will tack higher in your top gear, sad but true)

You will be able to pull off quite better of a 1/4 time, loose alittle top end and top speed. But all in all your gears will "go" faster then normal which is great!!

      Good luck with the install.

try and find an ls1 take off rear end, they have 3.42s and a posi. for the price you can get one for it's worth it. and just swapping a rear end is something you can do in your garage

        Abbott long tubes,homemade true duals,slp ram air,whisper lid,eibach springs,kyb shocks,BMR subframe connectors, BMR LCA reloc brackets,BMR LCAs. T-top/manual converted

I wonder how much it would cost to find one at the junk yard. I once went and found one, but the one guy wouldn't let it go for anything less than $535.

Way over priced. I have found them around 300 bucks. EBAY has them also...course you pay about 150 in shipping costs.
