To anyone with 3.42s and A4..

What is the lowest speed at which your car will shift into 4th? I have reason to believe my speedo is off, and i'm trying to find out just how far off it is.

lowest speed... thats a bad way to figure it out dude. shifts are based on engine load, not speed. if you're doing 45 up a 25* incline it probably wont shift to fourth b/c you need the extra torque from 3rd.

anyways, that said, it usually shifts at about 40-43 for me when i'm just feathering the throttle.

40-45 is when it would shift. its will always drop into 3rd whenever i go under 40

Lowest is 40 MPH, level ground, accelerating as slow as possible..

Thanks that's what I'm looking for. From my old cluster I remember it being around 40 but I wasn't positive. I could've sworn this new speedo was at least 5mph but it seems to shift about 38-40 so I guess people around town just drive slow. :shrug:

or you can fullthrottle it, and see what your car should be at when it shifts.
what size tires do you have?
with 275/40/17 tires, under WOT the car should shift 1-2 at 44 2-3 at 83
if you can rev to 6k rpms

On my speedometer...

3 > 4 at 45mph at very light or no throttle
4 > 3 at 42mph at very light throttle.

After reading that I was thinking that's waayy off..then i read the 6k rpms and it all makes sense! hah.
