  • Break-in time for clutch?

Is there a break-in period that I need to go through before I start getting on my car after a new clutch was installed? Don't want to mess anything up here...

Just wanted to make sure, as I plan on going to the track sometime next week.

DO NOT go to the track you need to break it in for at least 500 miles.

The mechanic also told me to drive regular for about 500 miles , stop and go trafffic to break it in. Don't know the reason behind it though. I think if you didn't break it in it would put uneven groves or heat marks on the clutch discs. Don't know for sure , just guessing.

It will not seat properly and causing scaring of the clutch disc and flywheel resulting in loss of griping power and premature wear.

drive, calmly for 500 miles... and remember the key is heat cycles, not the mileage...

meaning, don't go make a 500 mile trip. drive it, let it sit and cool, drive it, etc... so if you do lots of longer drives, extend the break in period a little.

Also don't be rough on it during this period.
