When I shift my m5 'bird, the shifter handle hits the center console in 2nd and 4th gears. I dunno if this is something the prior owner caused by changing something, or if its common in all the cars. The shift distance feels short, similiar to the shift throw for my Eclipse. I had thought the throw was longer for these...anyway for me to tell if the prior owner installed a short shifter or anything? I've got no clue what these things look like stock...:D

Mine got REALLY close before I put my Hurst in. If the shifter were any shorter, the knob would have hit the console.

Mine actually hits the console, scared the **** outta me the first time. THought something broke. It does it even if I'm just shifting normally as opposed to when I start grabbing gears on hard accel :D Guess I'll get a short shifter. I need a new shift boot, too...the one it has isn't stock. I also think I need some sort of piece that goes over the boot, cause nothing is there>.>

I know the stock shifter is very spongey, moves around with a bit of resistance... I have the Pro 5.0, and the shifts are really firm, no doubt if you're in gear or not. Im sure this is the same with all aftermarket shifters for the f-body. If it's really bothering you, and you're sure you have the stock shifter, buy an aftermarket, or just check to see if everything is alright down there if it happens to be an aftermarket shifter.
