thinking of new gears....

Hey guys, im thinking of getting new gears for my car.. my diff is leaking and if i take it off, i might as well put new gears in.

anyways, im not sure what to get.. i was thinking of getting .410's what do you guys think about that?

Also, when i was looking in the jegs mag, it has like a 2 or 3 carrier.. which one should I get?

I read the sticky, but it wasnt very clear, because the 410 gears have both.

Would it be worth getting these gears for winter driving? I already have enough trouble with the wheels spinning, i dont want to make it worse

and finally, what are the stock rear gears for the t5.. nothing special, just a regular one wheel wonder

4.10s and 3.73s are a pretty popular choice if you really want to up grade. you probably have 3.23s so i believe you need the series 3 carrier set. as for 4.10s in the snow....... good luck, you will be spinning like crazy, you MIGHT be able to get by doing 2nd gear starts but i still think you going to be spinning pretty bad. You might want to just throw a set of 3.42s in it, this way you can get decent starts in the snow and not loose much MPG on the high way, but still feel a differance in acceleration

if you put higher gears in you know that your gas mill. will get hurt. the higher the gear the worst the gas millage. if it's your daily drive i would say 3.73's if she's just the weekend car go with 4.10's

If you have a leak you could just replace the gasket :poke: But if you want new gears I guess it depends what you plan on doing with the car.

I'm doing an axle swap, getting LSD, 3.42's, and disc brakes all in one :) Just not quite yet. I gotta find a better job to fund my Firebird :D

A z28 axle isn't that hard to get your hands on if you really want it, but you can run into problems when installing. Ask Crushedout :D

HAHA! Honestly my biggest problem was getting shocks from Bilstein. Now my brakes are a little bit of a problem but I'm contracting that out now;)

i dont think im going to change the gears.. too much of a hassle, and there is no point in putting money into a v6 camaro

but seriously dude you are on a v6 enthusiast site, and i must say the 3800 is one of the best v6 motors made, do your research and see how many times it has been in the wards top ten best engines. and plus the advantage to say a turbo v6 is less wheel spin at the same hp as a v8 and you run faster and burn out less. much easier to drive and more cost effective i.e. insurance gas repairs. so are we kidding about the ban after a comment like that? some may say yes. . . but im thinking NO! burn the witch!
