as we speak i am trying to install a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft into my car. it is a 93 firebird with a two piece steel in it right now. i have the four bolts off of the yoke and the one half is just hanging there but the center piece holding it together is keeping me from taking it out. there is a steel circle with a rubber piece in the middle keeping it from sliding out of the transmission, and i cant get the two bolts off that are holding it together. looking at my once piece i don't think it even needs the center piece to work and i don't think it would even fit, can i just cut the center piece off and then install the driveshaft? should it just slide out? please help i am currently at a friends house and need my car soon!! please help

Re: d.s. install please help quick!
It's called a carrier bearing. You can cut the outer brace around the bearing that holds it in place and remove the bolts that hold it to the Torque arm after you get the drive shaft out of the way. I wouldn't sugest beatting on it too much as you may danage the torque arm.

Re: d.s. install please help quick!
There are 2 bolts that hold the center bearing to the torque arm, you have to remove those 2 bolts and then the whole thing will slide out of the transmission. Watch out, it's a lot heavier than that aluminum one.1994 Firebird 3.4
15.65 @ 86.8
funkz.net/firebird
Timeslips

the torque arm on my car was rusted to hell, there was no way that thing was gonna come off, btw what does the torque arm even do? just protect the d.s.?

Holds the rear in the car. It takes the place of the upper control arms that you would see in a Cutlass or other A or G body cars.
