  • Ltd Slip Diff's: Zxl vs Etn vs Auburn

I need to replace my limited slip differential, ring & pinion.

    2 Questions:
    1) Zexel vs. Eaton vs. Auburn
Anyone had experience? Which is better?
I don't race, just spirited street driving.

    2) Pinion Ratio's
    I have a 3.23 (I think) M5 tranny. Should I got to 3.73? Anyone have any experience?

Searching will answer a lot of your questions. Look for it in the top right.

Other than that I don't know much about the differential's, I don't think it will matter which kind you get (Since you don't race) as long as it is a 2 carrier.

Go with a Zexel. Both Eaton and Auburn type posi's use clutches, which need to be replaced over time. Zexel is supposed to be "service-less" since it uses worm gears.

Yea, tons of people have had lots of experience with them.

If he's keeping his stock gears, he'll need a 3-series carrier.

I like zexel myself, I used to have 3.23's in mine M5 and went to 3.42 wasn't too much of a seat in the pants improvement, but now I'm a A4 and will be putting in some 3.73's I think it will be a big improvement.

What I meant, but incorrectly stated, was that he needs to make sure the new rear end doesn't have traction control. Thanks for the correction Smoke.
