hey guys this is the code i got at auto zone today. "DTC P1870 Transmission Component Slipping" my question is what is slipping? ie cluch packs, gears or what do you guys think. i need some help on this one. thanks guys.

Condition
Some customers may comment on a harsh 1-2 upshift and the Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon indicator is illuminated.

Diagnosis


Typically, these vehicles will have been driven more than 32,000 km (20,000 mi) before this condition occurs.

The scan tool may show a DTC P1870 set as a history code.

A harsh 1-2 shift or DTC P1870, caused by wear in the control valve body, may be difficult to duplicate when the transmission temperature is below 93°C (200°F).

Cause
The condition may be due to wear in the control valve body. This wear occurs in the bore that contains the TCC isolator and regulator valves, and results in poor, or no, TCC apply.

Sounds like it's your valve body.

ya the car has 72000 miles on it and the 1-2 shift is relaly harsh after it has been driven for a while. i would say about over 90 miles in one trip and on very hot days. do you know were i get a new one? and do you know of any good brands?

if your automatic transmission slips.. from what ive been told.. toss the ***** or have it rebuilt.... buying a rebuilt one is cheaper then having it rebuilt 2

my firebird is running the same code. goes into second real hard. but its very random when it does it. been goin on fer a couple months.

There's no need to buy a new transmission, it's just the valve body according to the code. You should be able to pick one up for a few hundred bucks just do some searching on the net. Since the c5 vette's have the same transmission see if there's is different and if you can use there's to improve the performance. Might as well upgrade while your in there.

i didn't know that the c5 corvette has the same trany. and ya i was going to upgrade while i was doing all of this corvette servo ooo and the other question do i have to remove the trany to replace this? and what other than the servo can i up grade? thanks guys for all the info you just saved me more than liky hundreds of dollers. :banana: :banana: :banana:

Not sure what is required in the teardown. Best thing you can do is get a haynes or chiltons manual that will break it all down for ya.

when the transmission in my 96 Camaro was slipping (90k miles) it ended up being that my torque converter shredded which shot metal all through my transmission and I had to get a complete rebuild. NOT FUN!!!

definitely did, it cost me $2,500 to fix!!! had to get all new components and wiring soo basically i have a 2007 transmission even though they stopped makin our specific one lol

damn thats alot of money..lol.. At least u have a new transmission.. Now im scared of ever putting a torque converter..lol

thats y i'm not doin the v8 swap cause i feel bad tearin out that tranny since i just put that much f***n money into it
