gear spacer? never heard of it. you will need a 3 series posi and have to pick up a reluctor ring to keep your abs i believe

what is a reluctor ring cause i think thats what a ring gear spacer is cause i will have to put the gear spacer behind the ring to get it closer to the pinion

          because you'd be going from a 2-series gear to a 3-series gear

No. Ring spacers will reduce the amount of thread in the gear, which could lead to premature failure. Do it right or don't do it at all

Most ring gear spacers (12 bolt, 8.5,8.2 10 bolt)come with the longer bolts you will need to keep the ring gear bolted to the carrier. The spacers do however cause backlash inconsistencies that can reduce gear life or cause the gear to break. I wouldn't use one. You are much better off buying the right series carrier or if you have a posi already you can buy the Richmond or Summit gears that are made to fit the 2 serries carrier.

yeah, they make 3.42 gears for 2 series carrier. wow, there's a lot of misinformation in this thread.

correct me if i am wrong, but wouldnt a 3.42 gear be smaller than a 3.08 gear

no, they're all the same size. The only difference is the number of teeth on the ring and pinion

yes, but when you have 3.08 gears, and you say you want a smaller gears, you will get 3.42

a bigger gear would be like going from 3.08 to 2.56

No, that's not how it works for the rest of the world. Larger gear ratios are referred to as larger gears
