clutch bleeding questions

1) Should the fluid reservoir cap be on or off when bleeding?
2) With the clutch out(not pressed in) is when you loosen the bleed screw, and then press the clutch in, keep it there, tighten the bleed screw back, and then release the clutch - right?
3) Does it matter if the bottle of hydraulic fluid(with the tube in it to the bleed screw) is above or below the bleed screw?
4) My bleed screw doesnt tighten up all the way, it just kinda keeps turning. Is that normal?

anyone? clutch doesnt have enough pressure to even overcome the springs

im following the haynes manual instructions exactly, but still nothing. all that comes out of the bleeder screw is a little bit of hydraulic fluid, or maybe a bubble or 2. but ive done it many times and the pedal still just flops to the floor

Yes, the bleed screw should tighten. If it doesn't it or the slave cylinder are stripped. The cap should be on.

To bleed it, depress the clutch,while holding the clutch down, open the screw. Before releasing the clutch, tighten the screw. Then pump the clutch a few times and repeat. If you do it this way it doesn't matter where the bottle with your over flow tube in it is.

it wouldnt tighten by hand, but it did with a wrench. and the convention bleeding method was almost useless because i had SOO most air in my lines. i ended up buying the $40 mityvac at harbor freight. i tried bleeding from the master cylinder, that got me a liitle pressure (not enough to shift into first with the car on though, then i bled from the slave cylinder and that made the pedal extremely firm and i ran it through the gears on jackstands.

should have my car done tomorrow! :banana:

How did you bleed from the slave clyinder? I am having the same problem you did and have already ran through a bottle of fluid
