how much hp can the stock M5 tranny handle? when all is said and done, 350wheel hp is the goal. supercharged and cammed. what about 400 wheel hp? (not saying ill ever get that high...just curious.) thanks.

not what i wanted to hear... ive wanted to do the A4 to M5 swap, and already have some parts for it, because I like manuals a LOT more than autos... but if i get a normal tranny, ill just shred the gears, and to spend another $1000 after the swap to build the tranny up is a lot of money... do you usually send your tranny in to places or do they send you the parts and you build it yourself? is building up your own tranny an intense undertaking?

t5 = name of the manual transmissions in our cars
4L60E = name of the auto transmissions in our cars
m5 = abbreviation for a 5 speed manual
a4 = abbreviation for a 4 speed auto
m49 = GM code for a car with a manual transmission
m30 = GM code for a car with an auto transmission

I did a world class T-5 for my friends Mustang about a year ago. Just for the parts to fix it and a few small upgrades was around $800. Most of these need gears replaced because the sync's tend to chew the points off the gears. Out of 5 gears I had to replace 3 of them with stock gears. Rebuilding one isn't hard if you have lots of mechanical experience.sigpic

I've built a 700R4 and that was kind of a pain; required some special tools to get retainers and springs out. I've never tried a T5 but my understanding is that its easier.
