  • 94 T-5 tranny question

Would a t-5 from a 94 work in my 96? Just a simple interchangability (sp?) question.

        Re: 94 T-5 tranny question

I was thinking the tranny only... I can get a bellhousing seperately, and I was going to buy the clutch seperately- a new stage 3 spec clutch

Would the tranny itself definetly work as long as I reflash a 97 pcm?

          Re: 94 T-5 tranny question

The transmission itself w/o bellhousing should be the same. The only question is when GM changed the speedo sender. On the 94 it's a plastic gear driven speedo sender on the tail housing that feeds the PCM the speed signal. Somewhere along the lines they changed to a magnetic VR type pick-up instead of the gear driven type. It may have been later than 96 that they switched to this but I'm not sure. The signals from the two types of senders do not interchange.

well, I happen to know that my '96 has one of the magnetic speedo sensors(it's an automatic right now), and since the signals don't interchange, I guess that would be no on this tranny?

              Re: 94 T-5 tranny question

It might be possible to remove the 94 tailhousing, remove the plastic gear and press of the reluctor wheel from the later model but I don't know if the pick-up is shapped the same such that it will bolt into the 94 tail housing. It might be easier to get a newer T5 with the magnetic sensor unless you don't want a speedo :P
