ok so I swaped my rearend out with one off a v8, auburn posi and 4.10 gearing. my original one had an ABS speed sensor on the top that read some gear thing on my ring gear.

My new rearend didnt have the hole in the top for the sensor, so I unplugged the wires and took the abs speed sensor out. My ABS INOP light is on, (duh) but is there anything I can do to get the abs sensor working, or....?

Also, my "brake" dash light comes on when I start driving. Car turns on, I take the E-brake off, light goes off...then I start driving and it comes back on.

i think you can drill a new hole on top of the housing and put your old sensor in it. Or I saw something about splicing the wires.

hmm...well, it feels fine so I probably wont worry about it at this point.

Any idea why the e-brake light would be on? where is that even sensored at? It goes off when I put it down, but right when I start driving it comes back on....

      Thanks for the help guys!

It means you have no abs brakes.

My suggestion... try and splice it in with one of the sensors on the wheels. Tht is one way.

The other way is to drill a hole on the top, I did that but it leaked afterwards.

hmm, where are the sensors at the wheels? I think the rear end I used use to have them at the wheels and the one I took off had it at the differential, I see no sensors at the wheels. Also would this cause my "brake" dummie light to come on when I start moving?

The switch to turn the e-brake light on is at the e-brake handle. Its a little metal tab that touches handle.

Did your ring gear have the "sensor gear looking thing", cause the one I just put in was just smooth there.

                Re: rearend swap

You installed a 4 channel ABS rear in a 3 channel car. Your brake warning light comes on when you start moving because the anti lock module is getting no input from the rear and thinks the back wheels are locked up. I would search the LS1 boards and see if they have a fix other then drilling the hole for your stock sensor. If you do drill the housing you also need to install the ring off your old carrier on the posi carrier in your new rear. The anti lock ring is not part of the ring gear, it slides on the ring rear flange of the carrier.

interesting...so would the anti lock ring from a series 2 carrier fit on my new series 3? and would this be too hard for me to do on my own or...?

and thanks again for all the help guys! :)

                    Re: rearend swap

You need to be able to remove the carrier and replace it, shimming it the same way it came out. The ring should be the same.

That is a nice sig, I likes. I just changed mine :excited: hah. BTW if you're really going turbo wouldn't you want like 3.42s or lower?

this is a worn out ring gear, you would need to install one of these and tap a hole for sensor to get it to be "proper"

hmm...maybe I'll pull it back out and have my 3.42 gears put in with the ABS ring from my old rearend...

The way your ABS works is...

on a 3 channel car(all v6s), there are ring gears on both front wheels and one on the diff itself. When they spin at different speeds it tells the ABS to activate, when they see excessive differences it shuts the ABS system down and pops up with the ABS light to show there is a problem.

On a Traction Control System(TCS) car, an option on v8s. They have 4 channels, there is a sensor and gear at all 4 wheels, bot nothing on the diff, no ABS reluctor ring on the diff and no hole on top of housing.

To use the current rear... you need to drill a hole and put an ABS reluctor ring on the current diff, I swapped one over and drilled a hole, fixed my abs problem but its hard to get a hole just right(~1/2 in hole through like 1 in of steel is hard to do )

The other option I heard but never tried was splice the wiring for the ring on your v6 car to one of the wheel sensors on one of the wheels. I "heard" that will work but never tried.
