recently ive been hearing a loud clunk when i accelerate from a light or when i put it in reverse. so i checked underneath and my torque arm bushing is completely chewed up. i was wondering if i were to replace the driveshaft to an aluminum, would i still need the torque arm or not?(1 pc steel, A4 btw)

yes you need a torque arm. without it you would have issues. -

Unless you want the drive shaft and rear end yoke to come through the floor you should keep the torque arm. Back seat passengers might not like that.sigpic
