im betting on its the exhaust rattling against the driveshaft tunnel brace
thats what I was thinking, I been crawling around under there with the engine running (probably breathing some delicious carbon monoxide) trying to find the rattle, but of course it never does it when I look for it. not sure if theres anything to do about it either. Clamp a brace on there somewheres?

i took the brace off and beat it with a hammer, the paint was worn down where the pipe was vibrating on it

your problem does NOT sound like a u joint if it is happening for 5 seconds

a u joint will make a clunking sound as soon as you let the clutch out

could it be a noise coming from the cat? iv been researching and i think my cat might be bad or clogged. the shop said it feels like a miss fire but its not my spark plugs or wires and not my injectors and i dont have an ses light on. im thinking it might be the cat cause other have had this problem before, but could it cause the sound

why dont you take a video of this noise, because well, your description makes no sense, if it were something grinding, i would have to assume whatever it was would be damaged now and your car would be unuseable

Metallic grinding? Hope it's not your gears, or your axle splines.

I wouldn't know though for real, I'm an engine guy...
