  • should i replace my rear main?

gonna change the clutch soon, so the flywheel will be off and everything, i dont think it is leaking at all (or at least there are no leaks on the driveway)

do you have to drop the oil pan to get it out?

car has 125k miles on it

If it is not leaking I wouldn't touch it , oh wait 125K, you should look into replacing it, might as well since you will be there.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's lasted that far, it would probably last another 125k. You could be opening a can of worms if you don't do it right.

When they swapped my M5 to A4( A4 had about 15,000 miles on it from salvage yard) , they looked at the rear main seal and said it looked good, so they didn't replace it. Did the swap, it didn't leak until about 2 weeks later. Now I have my rear main leaking(not a bad leak just drops here and there). Just pisses me off, I had the seal and everything at the time too. But my Dad and the mechanic said it looked good. So one of these days I'll get around to replacing it since I have the seal. Thats my story of the rear main seal.LOL

thats the point, i dont think it is leaking/bad but then i have a high mileage car, anything can go bad at anytime, im gonna be mad if i replace the clutch then find out i have to take everything back off to replace the damn seal

Don't replace it till it leaks. Either due to the tricky install or the quality of the replacement seals, many new installs semm to start leaking prematurely. Infant mortality at it's finest.
