Transmission from a 96 fit a 98 car?

Hey guys. Have a quick question. Will my 1996 3.8 Camaro transmission work in a 1998 3.8 Camaro? I wasnt sure if there were differences in the years.. Thanks..

4L60E or T5?

The 4L60E will bolt up and work, but it will not have a 6 bolt tailhousing, and it will have a one-piece bell. You will also need a 96 inspection cover, which I happen to have. wink wink

A T-5 is interchangable as well, you won't need anything else.

Its a 4L60E. Im selling my transmission. The guy interested wants to know if it will fit in his 98.

Yeah it'll fit. It will just look different than the one he has or had. and like I said, he;ll need that new style Inspection cover.

make sure the electrical connectors are the same (I remember reading about differences in some yrs) and also include the torque arm clamp; when I was doing my 3800 swap in the bird, the tranny I had didn't have the bushing clamp and I went through 3 diff yrs/styles (auto & stick) to get the right one. I think I have pics of the diff ones over at dayton f-body.

all 4L60E's from 96 and up have the same vss and tranny harnesses.

The torque arm clamp from his 98 should fit. however they did switch to a 6 bolt tail as I said before. Not a big deal....

for the torque arm mount, the 3 bolt holes that hold the bushing in place, I dealt w/3 diff patterns

Right. They changed that quite a bit.
