  • P1870 Questions

Ok dont flame I did a search and posted off an old thread but it was in general tech so I'm reposting here. After doing the reading it seems this is a well known issue but people have allot of ideas of how to fix it but no results with anything. I just got the car back from a rebuild after it was sitting for around 6 months. Since then my damn ses has come on just about every 80miles like clockwork. Im getting ticked now cuz there isnt much left and Im too far down the hole to turn back now. Anyway its hot here in AZ and the code came on after about an hour of freeway driving. The tranny fluid isnt black nor does it smell burnt but it isnt bright red and it doesnt smell clean. I do have hard 1st to 2nd gear shifts sometimes but not always. I cannot or should say I have not notice any slippage in the tranny just the hard shift. The tach and my speedo are in sync.
    1. My first question should I try a tranny service to fix it ie: flush etc or...
    2. Get the valve replacement or..
    3. Start thinking of just doing a rebuild

Please keep in mind I have already dropped 4k in my rebuild and misc stuff to this point so a rebuild would realy be a last option, in fact I would probly find a new tranny since its cheaper or so it seems.

Does the thing bog or anything like that? It wouldn't hurt to have the trans flushed and see if that's the problem.

I'm wondering if your converter is locked up.

*everyting you could ever want to know abou the P1870 code.

check your tcc solenoid, I'm willing to bet that you're going to need an upgraded valve though. You def. don't need a rebuild yet, and i don't really rec. rebuilding a trans.

they sell the valve you need to fix the 1870 code for $20.

Just put it in and see if that works, one guy already used it and said it worked like a charm...

I have installed it an the problem is fixed.

You need only part #1870V, but be carfull when installing the valve, that you dont cut the seals from the valve.
          The bore ist realy sharp.
I cut a very little part of it, but it also works great, but you must find the pice and remove.

            Thanks all,
I got the transgo kit for 35 off ebay I didnt see the parts link for the 20 kit. I should have it tomorrow and put it in sometime soon, my wife isnt happy about driving our 78 blazer to work though while i get it fixed lol, damn thing gets 10mpg on a good day with a string tailwind.
Also I talked to my neighbour who is currently studying to become a master mechanic at AMI and he has offered to help if I get into a jam. Thanks again, I'll keep you guys posted.
