  • Just wanna double check...aluminum driveshaft Question

Someone offered to sell me a aluminum driveshaft out of a 2002 Camaro SS, has the u-joints included. So just to double check...this WILL indeed fit my 1995 5-Speed 3.4 V6 right??? Also a link or instructions (preferably pics) of how to do this if it is possible would be great as I've never done this before. Thank you.

    yes, it will fit.

take off the "exhaust cross member"....it doesnt hold anything up, its just there, then unbolt the bolts on the yoke holding the driveshaft to the diff. after that, push the ds into the trans a little further, to get it out of the yoke. once the back half drops, pull it outta the trans. installation is the reverse of removal.

you could do it in 10.

just make sure the back end of your tranny is level or higher than the front of the tranny or your going to loose fluid when you pull the ds out

Thanks for the heads up on transmission fluid possibly leaking...don't want another incident to happen where someone told me how simple it was to replace the reverse switch. To my surprise I had to learn how to change the transmission fluid on a whim for a manual as the person didn't note that the fluid would come. So is there a way to do this will NO fluid coming out or will some come out? Also another person offered me one for really cheap but it has no yoke/u-joint so how much are those roughly? Thank you

If you jack it up from the back, which I did, not a drop of tranny fluid will come out. It took me roughly 15-20 minutes including the time to jack the car up, which always takes forever with my crappy jack.

Would I be fine if I backed my Firebird up onto ramps? Or is that to high?

id think it was common sense taking a bolted on object off of the side of the transmission would make it leak fluid

if you can get your car high enough, which IMO you wont be able to..or it will be very unconftorable

The car doesn't need to be that high for it not to leak. I just jacked the car up enough to comfortably fit under the car. I'd say an average height ramp should be just fine.

I just jacked up back enough for me to fit under my car, and had no problems. Took about 10 min. I would double check the bolts a few days later make sure no come loose.

when i changed my fuel filter i backed my car up on ramps and while i was under there i said to myself "man, it looks really easy to change my drive shaft, i wash i had one"
but yeah how much do they normaly cost? and how much of an upgrade is it over stock?

usually a hundred bucks, the upgrade is absolutely unmatchable. really reduces rotating weight so it gets alot more power to the diff.
