Just wanna double check...aluminum driveshaft Question
Would I be fine if I backed my Firebird up onto ramps?
you may need to turn the axle at some point, just for more convienance when getting at the bolts...something you can't do if the wheels are still grounded on the ramps. Using jacks will save you a bit of strain in your wrist, but it's still possible to do it with ramps.

...if you can cut a 1.8 60' consistantly, sure...what you said can be thought of as true
That's right, or if it's your daily driver and manages to get a dent in it, that doesn't exactly help structural integrity.
Someone offered to sell me a aluminum driveshaft out of a 2002 Camaro SS, has the u-joints included. So just to double check...this WILL indeed fit my 1995 5-Speed 3.4 V6 right??? Also a link or instructions (preferably pics) of how to do this if it is possible would be great as I've never done this before. Thank you.
I have a 96 3.8 with an auto trans. Can I do this same thing with the shaft out of a V8 camaro? Thanks.

Have you ever even looked underneith an F-body? Nah, of course not...if that was the case, you'd know that the DS is about a half inch below that hump in the back of the car; your *** sits lower than your DS does.
In order for any real or significant damage to come to one's DS, all these components would have to be virtually destroyed:
-oil pan
-half your front bumper
-about 1/4 of your transmission
-K-member
-exhaust piping from the y-pipe back
-floor pan
-torque arm
-rear differential housing
-subframes
...so, if you destroy all that, I don't think the structural integrity of your DS is
going to be at the forefront of your mind. So no, even if you ground the car on a steep edge, the DS is not going to get touched
What about bouncing debris, you're probably thinking? Aluminum DS's aren't exactly the same thickness of a beer can...so unless crab people shoot something out of a cannon at it, anything that's small enough to fit in the valley the DS is in, is not going to have the speed, density, or mass to cause ANY structural damage to the DS.

yes
to the person wtih the a4, yes it will fit.
to smoke: naw i've never seen the underneath of my car i just swapped the trans, installed all the ****, and undercoated it blindfolded.
You don't always have to be a complete ****ing **** head to share your opinion.
and for your knowledge, i've seen alum ds's snap that way, otherwise, I wouldn't have said it.
i'm done with this thread. some people just make you not want to help anyone.

Well that certainly would explain the caliber of your posts

Anything more technically specific than it "snapped?" What car was it on? Mods? Driving conditions in which the DS broke?
Anyways, without knowing all that, I can safely say that the damage that caused the failure, did not occur while DS was installed on the car; it was pre-existing condition...Of course, assuming it was installed properly.

Re: Just wanna double check...aluminum driveshaft Question
Where in the world can I get an aluminum ds for $100. I've looked everywhere for months. Anytime one happens to show up on one of the forums, it's gone asap. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys. For starters I’ve always been a big car guy, I love all types of cars and can appreciate all types of engineering. I’ve always been a Chevy...
