rear axle compatibility?

i have two rear ends.

my original one, 95. it has the slightly larger hubs.

and a newer one from a 99, with the smaller hubs.

are these interchangable? i know the thing hasnt changed significantly from 82-02, but i just wanted to double check.

*theyre both 3 channel rears.

Are you referring to the axle shafts themselves, or the whole rear end? The only difference in the axle shafts is what you stated: the hubs. The axles will interchange between the two rear ends, wheel fitment may be different. The newer wheels will require a little clearance to fit over the older, larger hubs.

If you're referring to the whole rear end, then yes, they are interchangeable, noting the difference in the hubs.

thanks man, thats exactly what i needed to know.

any idea why they changed the hub size? is it really different or is it just rust build up on the older hubs? haha.
