Okay guys I'm rebuilding my tranny in my 96 Camaro and I'm also swapping out my rear end for one I pulled out from underneath another 96 LT1 Camaro w/ 4.10 gears and of course the great disc brakes.

My question is what do I do about the speed limiter?

I understand that the gears are gonna say I'm running way faster than what I really am and therefore cause me to hit the speed limiter way before I'm actually there, so what is the remedy for this? Is there anything you can unhook or undo like the speedo or something?

I've heard that the tranny shifts by speed via electronically controlled valve body as opposed to RPM like a traditional tranny, is there any truth to this?

And also who sells a 3,000 stall that can handle some spray?

OR IS THERE A CONVERSION TO PUT A TH-350 BEHIND A 3.8? I already have a kit to put a th-350 or powerglide in my car "for other reasons" and if I can use the th-350 I'm going too and what would I do about a converter then?

No this car WILL NOT be a daily driver of any kind, just a weekend warrior so to speak.

The only way to get around the speed limiter on a automatic car would be custom tuning. Yes, the tranny shifts are tabled by speed, not RPM. Again, custom tuning will remedy this. I'm not sure about converters for 3.8s, I've never been in that market. Also unsure about the TH350.

Wonder if I can convertthe 4L60E to a manual valve body? Then I would control the gear range all the time.

^ Were not gonna waste that much money on this car. 158,000 miles and has been beat all to hell and even got "KKK" carved in the passenger side fender lol!

Were just seeing what that 3.8 will hold up to before we scatter with 2 stages of spray.

We already have LT1 Motor with all wiring/ecm goodies, K-Member, Powerglide, 9 inch Moser, BMR Suspension stuff, blah blah blah............Were just wanting to see what it can do at the track before it goes, but the stupid tranny started slipping in second gear with a 55 shot of spray.

And why we bought the car in such horrible shape you may wonder? Because we have learned it's a great "fishing" car lmao!

Thanks for your guys 2 cents though anyway!

If your not going to change PCM your only going to be able to trap in the low 90's with 4:10 gears. Unless I think you disconnect the speed senors(I think that is right).

you can unplug the sensor from under the tranny(4l60e) and your speedometer wount work, but i reccomend you get it tuned so it can be recalibrated, try my friend JEFF ROBERT(AUTO COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES) his number is 1(518)872 0421 tell him you need a tune,it takes several calls to get him though, lol just mention my name, tell him richard recommended him, he does really good tunes at a cheap price, really cheap.

you can swap for a 97 pcm and tune.

but what about the Jet SCU200 or whatever(I might have mispelled it) but it was a thing that could recalibrate for gears on autos. No one really talks about it ever since people started tuning PCMs.

                        Re: Tranny/Gear/Speed Limiter Talk

It's easier and more effective to just swap the PCM's. They are easy to remove and there is a lot more that can be done with them.
