  • Changing a Clutch

    hey everyone!

    I have a 1996 3.8 l Firebird

    I was wondering what would be the BEST way to go about changing my clutch?..


    ive read different ways of doing it...i wanna do it the best way

    please help!:wavey:

      like basically..

      ive read that you need to take certain parts off...but then again ive read that you dont need to take those parts off..like the exhaust and the starter motor?

      im sorry if im being realllly vague

        remove driveshaft from rear diff but i usually keep it plugged into the tail of the trans because if you pull it out tranny fluid will come out.

        remove torque arm mount from tailshaft of trans

        remove bellhousing bolts

        put jack under cross member remove cross member bolts

        pull trans out..

        thats it in a nutshell

        Abbott long tubes,homemade true duals,slp ram air,whisper lid,eibach springs,kyb shocks,BMR subframe connectors, BMR LCA reloc brackets,BMR LCAs. T-top/manual converted

            you need to remove the driveshaft, torque arm, trans crossmember, DS tunnel brace in order to get the transmission out

            you will need to remove the inspection plate, and there is another plate that you have to remove also IIRC.

            you will basically see everything you need to remove while you are doing the job, the starter and exhaust can stay on with no problems.. i really have no idea why the books tell you to remove them
