ok, so im in the process of changing my clutch..im trying to take off my transmission. i got all of the bolts off but two. they are up really high and im using sockets with extensions and its not budging...
but i also used a 1/2" ratchet i can tell you right now, it was 10x easier using that than a smaller 3/8"
but basically you just gotta pull as hard as you can to get those things out, they are a pain.. my fingernail still has a huge black and blue mark from smashing it against the transmission when the ratchet slipped
BTW what clutch are you trying to put in?
and a word of advise.. its easier using longer extensions than a bunch of smaller ones put together, there is less twisting on the extensions (which is why thy are so hard to get off, the torque you are putting on the ratchet is taken up by the extensions twisting)... and also make sure you drained the transmission as best as you can, o at least put something where the driveshaft goes because when you get it out, i guarantee you another quart will pour out all over your workplace
It may also help to unbolt the crossmember and lower the tranny some if you haven't done that already. A swivel socket or at least a universal will probably be necessary.

ahh yes, forgot to mention that, im assuming he already has the crossmember unbolted already, but that helps if its out of the way and a jackstand under the transmission
i also used a piece of wood and jacked the front of the engine up a bit to give me more room
There should be 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to engine and 4 bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing.
Are you having the flywheel resurfaced? (i hope so)
i would get new flywheel bolts, i broke one off when i put my flywheel back in.might save you some time

take your time and good luck
this is great advise, i also snapped two of mine in the crank, there was only about 1/16" of the bolt sticking out and thankfully the stripped bolt removers were able to get them out
if it were to snap far in the crank, i would have been screwed
You should ALWAYS replace flywheel bolts when you remove them!!!

i didnt replace the bolts on the flywheel..they went in soooo smoothly..the only thing thats missing from this crazy puzzle is the one bolt that goes to my belhousing to my engine..im going to go to a GM dealer tomorrow and pick one up and i should be set
thanks for all the replies...ill post again tomorrow evening and let you know how it all turned out..i really hope i dont run into any problems hahah
