How easy is it to do it yourself? or should i take it to someone to professionally do it? Also what kind of gears work best with the 3.8? i was thinking about getting 3.73's

take it to someone to do professionally... the pinion depth has to be set to something like a thousandth of an inch or they will fail...

      Re: Gears

its easy to do yourself if you have the correct tools

if you dont, just take it to a shop and have them do it.. if they do it wrong, they will have to replace them anyways, so no loss to you.

          Re: Gears

somewhere around 300 for install...your going to need an lsd unit as well unless you already have the y87 package on your car..

                They are different...
the gears in the manual were 3.23 stock, with 3.08 being standard for automatics... unless you have the Y87 code, then it gets bumped up to 3.42's...

my bad...he said he wanted to go to 3.73's

I know auto has 3.08, manual has 3.23's etc...he said he wanted to put in 3.73's and I said/meant that its the same gear you put in the rear regardless of whether or not you have an auto/manual. Aftermarket gears don't change size unless you decide to get a thicker gear for the series 2 differential

Also your options are incase you were unaware and just picking 3.73's for the fun of it...

                      2.73
                      3.08
                      3.23
                      3.42
                      3.73
3.90 (yes, 3.90, they make them now, I have them....)
                      4.10
                      4.56
