Just noticed something new on my 10 bolt

I was chaning my motor oil yesterday and my oil level sensor and looked at my 10 bolt, with the UMI tunnel mount TQ arm installed. I noticed I could see the bolts going through the top and coming out the bottom but I could see the whole bolt going through. The GM mechanic that did my 3.73 gears,LSD and seals must of took off the TQ arm mount for the install and before putting the TQ arm back on cut the side of the 10 bolt so you can see the long bolts going through and come out the bottom. It still works fine but I saw the bolts and thought he didn't run them through the 10 bolt at first which freaked me out. But after a closer look I saw what he did and thought it was a cool idea since they can be a pain in the @ss to get in sometimes, plus the 2oz of metal weight loss in the rear.LOL It was new to me. I'll post some pics on my cardomain site when I get a chance, I have the before and after pics which is pretty cool. Anyone ever heard of this before? Thanks Steve

I was justing thinking it made it eaiser to install the bolts, since you can see them go through. I know if I have to mess with it , it will be real easy to take off and put on. But I don't know , I never seen it done before.

It just doesn't make sense to me. It's a straight hole; if you put the bolt in the top of it, it WILL come out the bottom, whether you can see it or not. Am I missing something here?

I have no clue either, thats why I was asking, I just would line them up with a long screw driver then put the bolt in. So I'm confused. It still works fine so I'm not going to worry about it, just was seeing if anyone has heard of doing it and apparently not.LOL Thanks for your reply.

I was under there yesterday and the bolts go through the 2 bolt holes of the 10 bolt and you can see them from the outside of it going through the bottom. I could also feel and see where he cut the section out. I take a pic once I get it jacked up again. It def. would make it easier to put the bolts back in.LOL It is the strangest thing I have seen on a 10 bolt thats for sure.

Everyone I've ever seen looks like that. The stock torque arm covers it.

But if you look on page 1 before the 3.73's , it is closed. You can see the one bolt with a closed housing. This is with the same UMI TQ arm.
