  • Headlights not working...

So, today when I left for work, turned on the headlights (still dark), they looked like they were half on, then poof!... They both went out! Didn't have time, drove the winter car. This evening, I checked things: I have 12 volts at the headlight connector, but no continuity accross the lights themselves, that tells me the lights are toast. So my q is, it's not too common that both lights go out at once, is there something that could have taken the lights out? I do hear a click from the DRL module when switching them on/off. The high beams still work. So, IDN?

if replaced previously at same time why not.. very unlikely. I say pickup two new bulbs cheap enough replace see if works.

I've had both low beams go out at once and then both high beams go out, pissed me off but it had been 3 years then I think about 5 years when both highs went and alot of time using them at night.

could be a short somewhere, but as was already said... new bulbs should tell you more, if it does the same thing with new bulbs then you know you've got a problem...

Are you positive that one of your headlights wasn't already out? You could've already had one out and then the other one went making it seem like they both went out at the same time... you'd probly notice if one was already out, but its a thought

          Re: Headlights not working...

I did have both lights replaced at the same time because one went out; maybe 3 years ago. I don't drive it in winter, so they should last longer.

I can tell easily if one light goes out 'cuz when I pull out of the garage and turn the corner, I see both lights reflect on the apartment building...

Also, a couple weeks ago after turning them on, I saw only one reflection, so one was out, but I wiggled the connector on the back of the light and it came back on. So maybe that was an indication they were about to go.

I'll try new lights, see what happens, just don't want to blow new lights right away...so I thought to ask for any other possible causes before I did anything. I hope it's not a short somewhere, I'm not good at tracing electrical probs.
