Next Friday a Viper 3202V I think it is, also having them do the door s with poppers so I can can unlock and lock the doors and pop the hatch. Has a pager built in and the dual shock sensors. Will be nice having a alarm again, price I think is around $350 W/ tax for the alarm install and $150 for the doors and truck pop, so around $500 isn't bad, plus lifetime warranty on the alarm cpu and install. Since it will be a month or 2 before i will have a garage t put it in. So I also ordered a car cover with lock. And will be putting my locks back on my ZR1's wheel studs. Anyone know if this is a good alarm? I was messed up from taking my meds so I just asked what was the best they had for whaat I wanted it to do.

Re: Getting alarm installed
Good system, great range, but I do have some advice. First off, Viper is the middle of the road line from Directed Electronics company. Good company with good stuff. They are sold at different price points, but are mostly very similar alarms. The differences are mainly in the appearance and remote type and warranty. I'd suggest you double check the warranty, because when I was looking, Viper had a lifetime install warranty from Best Buy, however, the actual brain was only a 1 year. The reason I went with Clifford (sold at CarToys) was because it had a lifetime warranty both install and all components excluding the remote. If there is a CarToys in your area, I might suggest going there and getting the Clifford version of that alarm for the lifetime warranty and a few more perks. CarToys even price matched the install of the Viper system from Best Buy.
I went with the Clifford 50.5x full two way paging remote start system with all the extra options, and spent $750. 2-mile range, LCD screen that notes which sensor was triggered and why. Main thing I will note for my system as well as that one is that the battery life in the pager remote is terrible. Since my car has been in storage(~2 months), I've visited it 3 times, and every time the battery was dead. Takes a AAA, and lasts only a few weeks at a time. Even the Energizer lithium only lasts about a month. amount of use really doesn't affect it in my case. Just a heads up. You might find that the non paging remote is the one you use most often because it is similar to a regular key fob and doesn't eat batteries.

Re: Getting alarm installed
The install is lifetime with brain, but the remotes andd siren have a 1 year warranty. It will be nice to have power doors, I didn't want remote start since all the wires are cut up since I converted from a M5 to a A4. Thanks for the reviews. What is funny is about a month ago different store called about the doors and they said $180 per door to put door poppers in them and this store $60, big difference. I had bought the relays and poppes about 9 years ago and was going to do it but lost some of the parts, oh well.Last edited by ssms5411; 10-20-2009, 12:30 AM.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: Getting alarm installed
Let us know how you like it. Im going to be getting an alarm system, plus doors locks, and possibly remote start ofr my bday. I was looking at viper as well. The guy said thats the brand he sells the most and everyones been satisfied. So once you have it for a while a pros and cons list would be pretty cool.

Re: Getting alarm installed
I have a compustar, got it from soundwaves... I orginally bought a Clifford from Bestbuy, but when I went in to have it installed, the install guy fed me some bs that I might have problems installing it on my Camaro bc of some issue with the factory alarm, but I know from installing my first alarm that there's a bypass for the factory alarm that's easy to install... so basically I don't have a problem with Clifford, just the bestbuy I bought it from, I've had my Compustar for about 5 years now (i think) and have had no problems other than replacing the switch telling whether the hood was closed...
I know a bunch of people when I was in highschool who had Viper alarms with no problems...Rebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
Custom interior...

Re: Getting alarm installed
I got the alarm installed tonight , works well , except for the installers need to adjust the keyless entry poppers, they will open the doors but won't lock them so will be going back to have them fix it right. I like the pager part that tells you what door or hatch is open. Will test out the shock sensor in the afternoon. I'm just glad to have a alarm again on my car. The last one was a Clifford from Circuit City.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

RIP Ciruit City..:(
I know I had a lifetime warranty when I had my clifford matrix through them, sucked because it broke and no more Circuit City. They replaced the brain about twice in 5 years. I hope Best Buy doesn't go under since I have a lifetime warranty on everything just about. I was never good with alarms. Radio's, amps and any other wiring no problems.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake
