  • Can some one just give me a simple power window answer.

Ive read through the forums, everytime some one asks about a pw conversio people start giving them **** telling them it sucks and what not. All i want is an answer from people who have done it, seen it what not. What kit did u get, how much, did it come with everything, and how has it held up. Please leave the power windows suck comments out for gods sake.

    Cheers

I havent done the automatic conversion, I'm actually trying to convert to manual windows.

I would assume you need automatic window regulators, window motors, control pads with the switches and the wiring that goes with it.

See if you can find a wrecked car with the power windows and just swap everything out.

I haven't tried any aftermarket kits though so maybe someone else can help you on that.

^agreed. i have power windows, and they are crap...just kiddin

i would check first to see if you have the wiring that goes to the door for the power, then you can see how far back into the system you would need to go (maybe someone can chime in with an answer here) i would find a junk yard and see if there is a difference between the bolt patterns between auto and manual windows, there could be a difference. it may just be easier to swap out doors if you can find a set in your color lol.

i have power windows if you need any pics, i am totally willing to take my door panel off and get as many as you need.

yep pictures are here if you need them, I am actually driving around with out interior door panels at the moment because I am going to wrap the cloth with a vinyl so I just gotta take a pic lol.

In the manual swap I have to change the regulators, remove my window motors, and disconnect the wiring. So the auto regulators and manual regulators are a direct fit.

I believe these cars had the same wiring harness for everything even if your car didnt come with the option(for example the harness for power driver seat under the carpet) so if you can your hands on the controls and all that you should be able to just plug and play.

The regulator is a bish to remove and install though. :(

and like chicken said the best and easiest way is to swap your entire door lol.

Re: Can some one just give me a simple power window answer.

I have installed aftermarket power window kits in cars a few times in the past..

At first... they arent bad, They get the job done.

A power window conversion kit USUALLY comes with everything you need to finish the job from start to stop if your not a complete idiot.

The aftermarket kits just dont last long, they start making noise, they slow down, and stop working.

One of my customers complained that he had to grease the rollers and whatnot up, like every two weeks to keep it working properly, and eventually just went back to manual crank windows.

They also come with really cheap looking switches

Your best bet, is to find a similar car in the scrap yard, and take all the stuff to make your car into power windows with OEM parts that you dont have to pay OEM prices.

Theres a few harness's, switches, regulators and motors etc... It should be too expensive, because thats not really a hot seller at a scrap yard like motors, wheels and radios etc...
