Alternator?

Loud whining sound coming from alternator. My voltage gauge in the dash keeps dropping as well, but when I drive on the 4 lane it starts to come back up but as soon as I slow down, the volts drop again. Does it sound like I need a new alternator?

get the battery checked out first

but im almost positive it is either a battery or alternator

alright, but it seems as if one day it works fine (still a whine) and then another day it doesn't work properly. Thanks.

you can try looking at your headlights at night. sometimes when your alternator is goin your lights will be real dim and yellow, good luck!

Just rebuild it. It's relatively cheap. Whining noise is probably a bad diode or something.

i wouldnt get it rebuilt IMO, a friend of mine got his rebuild, and it ended up being about $15 cheaper than if he would have went out and bought a brand new alternator with a lifetime warranty

Rebuilt is good as new. My dad does that for people.
