  • Instrument Panel and Driving Lights Out

Like the title says, my instrument panel and driving lights no longer work. It happened the other night while cruising down the outerbelt. The instrument panel went completely dark. Found out the next day that the driving lights are out as well.

The instrument panel does light up when starting the car. I see all the warning lights light up for their test and then go out like normal. After that its back to completely dark. The headlights, brake lights, blinkers, reverse lights all work. With the driving lights out no one can see me from behind when driving at night. Not to mention I cant even see how fast I am going.

I verfied that it wasn't anything simple like the dimmer switch set all the way off. I also checked all the individual lights. The only bulbs burned out were the center brake lights. Changed them but main issue still exists. All fuses were good and even swapped a few around just to make sure.

I don't know what else to check at this point. Looking for some suggestions before getting raped by the dealership. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Doug.

did you check the fuses under the hood, or the ones next to the door panel?

i know someone who had that problem with a car, and it was an unrelated blown fuse under the hood

Yeah, I checked every last fuse in both locations. None blown or scorch marks anywhere.

Just got the car back from the shop. The light switch went bad. Swapped it out and all is good now. Parts/labor set me back $100.
