How hard is it to replace the ignition switch. Not the lock cylinder, but the switch on the steering column. Have an issue, might just be out of adjustment, but you can start the car but when youlet off the key, it dies. If you hold it towards the start position, it will stay running. It's a 94 Bird. I guess when things have over a 1/4 million miles, it's time to maintain them, haha.

        Re: Ignition switch

Took me 20 minutes to get it back together. Did it in the parking lot at work. 45 minutes to get it apart, just b/c I had to go back inside and get more tools. :)

Thats good time considering your upside down in a tight space, being 6'4 280LBS its a really tight spot for me to get under the dash with a bad back. Nice job. Mine was a M5, but my car is a A4 now since I switched, but have to keep the componets like that a M5 still. (its always fun going to the parts store ordering A4 and M5 parts.)

Yea, I'm 6'4" and 200. Thank god for hte skinny arms to reach in those hard to get at spots. The sad thing is, the m5 switch is about $15 and the a4 is about $40.

              Re: Ignition switch

I know I'm glad I had to put in the M5 switch, I wonder why the A4 switch is so high compared to the M5? More electronics? I found out all M5 columns are the same through 96-02 al least but the A4 years change and you can only use certain years of columns.

                Re: Ignition switch

The shifter lock out cable goes to the ignition switch for the a4. I would imagine that's what makes it more expensive.
