  • Front right turn signal socket

Ok.. so 3 bulbs in the past two weeks have burned out in the front right turn signal socket. I put the car on a lift and removed the flap under the bumper cover, pulled out the socket and it appears to have been burned from overheating.

    Has anyone had this problem?

I cannot seem to locate replacement sockets through GM or the auto parts retailers. I guess my best bet is to take a trip down to Northern, KY tomorrow and cut a socket out of a parts car. If I do the right side should I also do the left side, even if that socket is ok?

I also forgot to ask.. are the sockets from a '98-02 Camaro compatible with those out of a 4th gen Pontiac Firebird or a '93-97 Camaro?

The sockets seem to commonly burn out. I can tell you first hand that I have tried the local junk shops to replace the sockets in the 97 firebird that I recently sold and found that all cars in the yards had the same problem. It was random luck, but while walking out of one of the parts yards, there was a newer model front wheel drive GM car (don't recall model) but it was hit in the back end and the rear bumper was hanging by some wires.. and out from under the bumper hung a socket that looked EXACTLY like the blinker socket on my firebird. I cut both off the car and paid the parts yard $5.00 for the pair (with bulbs still in them) and the multimeter showed there were the same. Hooked them up and they worked a charm.

Hope you find the info useful. I wish I could remember the model.

RickS, thank you for the info! The local junk yard has a boat load of FWD GM cars from the previous decade. I'll take a look at a few of them tomorrow and see what I can find. That helps a lot!
