  • Power window issues..

I recently replaced both power window motors in my Camaro. This is my third 4th gen so I have become somewhat of a professional at this. Unfortunately I have a new problem which I can't seem to figure out. The switch is getting power and the window will roll up and down occasionally. Sometimes I have to tap the door panel with my fist in order for it to work. I removed the door panel to get a closer look at what was causing the problem, and with the door panel off the window rolls up and down without any problem. I then moved to the door panel to see if I could find anything that would get in the way of the glass moving up and down.. nothing.

Does anyone have and ideas or experienced similar problems?

    Thanks, Joe

I'm also interested in this. I replaced both motors last fall and used them MAYBE 10 times total before storing the car for the winter. Come spring only the driver side works.

make sure the plug is connected all the way to the motor, i had a few issues with mine when i did my drivers side one and that turned out to be the issue for me. not sure why but the damn clip wouldn't stay on firmly.

Yeah the problem with me after i had replaced the motor was that the harness wasn't properly connected... lol why is this such a common problem with f body owners... were all going to be power window experts :p and check your fuses!

              Re: Power window issues..

The regulator seems to be fine and the window goes up and down without hesitation when the door panel is off. It is only when the door panel is on that there is a problem. I can almost hear a grinding noise and it tries to go up and down. I pulled back the weatherstripping on the top of the door panel and it looks fine. I dunno? All of my connections are good and tight. I even lubed up the tracks when I replaced the motors two months ago.

My driver side window tends to slow way down when it gets to the rubber piece on the handle side of the door. It does good until it gets to that point, where it contacts the rubber. Perhaps, this is where its catching?

That rubber piece is a good possibility, I will put the door panel back on the door and see if I can find it.

Thats why I like my manual windows, dont have to deal with all the crap that fbody power windows throw at you.

Oh these damned windows. In the winter mine wouldnt work. Come to find out, after replacing both motors, that the BCM was the culprit. Once the interior warmed up, as did the BCM, the windows would work. I found the fix here in the forums. Also for some of us the motors have a load sensor. If the motor thinks its working to hard it will shut down and "cool off" for a few minutes then work again. I also greased up all the tracks and any moving parts and they go up and down fast now.

                              Re: Power window issues..

All I can add is that I copied my origianl receipt for my purchase of a window motor from Advance Auto Parts because the thermal paper fades over time. I have traded in window motors several times.

You should only have to buy one replacement motor - copy and keep your receipt.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.
