  • Removing marker light housing.. why so difficult?

    Hey all,

For some time now I have been without a right side turn signal. The hole that the bulb slides through at the top of the housing had a few cracks in it which allowed water to seep inside and short out the bulb. Today I had some time, so I removed the headlight so I could access the marker light housing. I removed the three tiny screws that held it in place, but the darn thing wouldn't come out. There wasn't enough clearance to just slide it out. After a few minutes I gave up and put silicon over the cracks, inserted a new bulb and fastened it back in. I also noticed that there is a large, flat piece of metal laying at the bottom of the housing. I guess it used to stick to the top of the inside of the housing? Also, is there an easier way to remove the marking light housing? I know some of you guys and gals have the clear or tinted housings which will eventually be one of my modifications. That way I know what to do when I get around to replacing them.

    Thanks, Joe

Never done the swap on a 98+, but I've always done it from below. I believe it's just 2 or 3 7mm screws. I never had any problems taking them out, from then iirc you just pull up and out.

i did mine from the top, it was straight forward.. take the screws out, disconnect the bulbs, then just slide the marker light out the front

When I replaced mine to clears I had to slide it over to one side then pull it out. Kinda a pain but just play around with it and you'll find a way to get it out.

Same here on my 96' just take them out from the bottom, then when putting the new ones in ,they kinda of click into the spot , if not they might be misallighned and have gaps.
