A/c Compressor clutch not spinning ? system is empty

my ac system has been empty since the swap. Trying to get it charged today. I noticed when i was adding oil to the system the compressor clutch wasnt spinning. Is that normal ?

You need to jump the low pressure cut off and force the compressor to run when charging it from empty.

you should put the oil in when the compressor is off the car, never use the stuff from the can.

when you are putting more freon in, the pressure in the can will be enough for the compressor to kick in.

My Dad and I just used the kit at Nappa with the gauge and freon and just put the A/C on Max and I put my manual fan switch on high and it took about 2.5 cans , the stuff i used had oil already in the can. I'll be doing this again at the end of summer when I replace my A/C condensor. If its humid or not hot out it might be hard to get the freon to go in all the way. I had a temp gauge on the middle vent and it got to like 30-40 degrees.

Just pull the plug off the switch, it's normally near the HVAC box on the firewall on the low pressure line, and short the two wires in the plug with a cotter pin. This will cause the compressor to engage even with no refrigerant in the system and making charging much easier and quicker. Once you have some refrigerant in the system you should hold the motor about 2000 RPM with the air on MAX and the windows down.

isnt that pressure switch a 3 wire ?

Might have 3 wires but only 2 plugs to the switch. I'd have to look.
