  • Fluctuation in Voltmeter on Dash

This Summer has been hot in my area. I have been running the a/c alot. Recently I have notice the fan blower, when running on high, will cause a surge on the voltmeter to drop for a few seconds then return to normal charge. I can hear a change in the fan speed when this happens also. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Could it be the fan motor going bad? Its a 2000 Camaro with a V6 3800 with 80,000 miles. Thanks for your help.

I have noticed this on mine before when the fans kick on or braking at a stop light or turning on the headlights. Also the A/C will do it also, aslong as your not dropping in the red or have a SES light its normal. You could always check it with a voltmeter to be on the safe side so it doesn't leave you stranded. I think checker will do a free batt. check and Alt. check. Mine with a 200amp ALt. and 2 batt. will do the same but I have a digital monitor , so I can see what its doing, and mine will stay around 13 volts and 14.2 at WOT. which is normal. before I had it drop into the 11's sometimes and 12's at WOT just do to all the electrical stuff I run. But if you can get it checked for free , might as well, could have a bad cell in your Batt. going out. Better to be safe than sorry later on. Esp. if you don't run alot of electrical stuff off your batt. Good luck. I'm in AZ and the heat will kill batteries quick ,same for Alt. so if you ever replace your Batt. a Optima is the best choice for hot weather.

      this seems somewhat normal.

and the stock gauge is not the most accurate thing out there either. sometimes mine will say 12.5 and other times it will be reading 15+ when my voltages are the same according to OBD
