after replacing a broken headlight on my 97 firebird the headlight shroud won't fit properly/ What am I doing wrong?

Yeah I had the same issue geting my car pieced back together after my wreck. Never went back the same so I shaved some of it off.
Did you take the whole assy apart from the car or did you just replace the bulb w/out removing anything else?-Jarred '70 Pontiac LeMans | '89 Firebird Formula 350

I usually need to push it over the bumper cover a bit, then make sure that it fits on the outside of the brackets (scissors). Make sure it clears the bumper cover. It takes a little persuassion, but it'll pop in and it shouldn't hurt the paint. Then you just align it and tighten it down, once it fits over the bracketry. I wouldn't let the shroud force the headlight open too long, it may mess up the gearing in the headlight motor.
