  • How to add mp3 jack to stock delco?

I would like to add a mp3 3.5mm jack to the stock cd player in my 98 Firebrid. I found a few sites that list how to modify Delco radio's but none addressed the radio in the 4th gen models.

If that is not possable, the next plan of attack would be to add a 4 channel amp with speaker inputs to be driven by the factory radio. Could add the jack to the RCA input side, and get that setup to work.

I really don't want to replace the stock radio/cd player.

Anyone done something like this? Any suggestions?

My radio in my 97 Z28 had an axillary port in the back of the radio and all I had to do was run a male to male extension cable to my ipod.

However I think my radio came from a newer F-body car and its a monsoon unit.

That's the kind of mod I'm looking for. Funny I did a search and didn't find that thread. Oh well.

But my stereo is not a Monsoon. Its the base model cd player w/graphic equilizer. Wonder if they are similar inside?

Just went over to LS1Tech and read the whole 16 page thread. Seems that the Pontiac hu with cd player is similiar to the Monsoon unit but uses a more difficult to splice flat ribbon cable. Will wait for warmer weather to mess with the radio.

It's certainly possible to put a 3.5mm output jack on a stock Delco unit, and I know this because I bought one off of ebay last summer. It works great, but I'm sorry I don't know how it was done.

Is there a way to do this mod for an older stock HU. mine is the 94 model with a casset player and I would love you get rid of the casset adapter

                * Well I found the wires and added in a input plug but the sound is not as clear and the volume is a bit lower so I have to see if its the wire I used or is there a pre-amp from the tape deck
