  • another HID question

Ok so i bought my HID kit from ddmtuning, the bulbs themselves work great. They are the H4 high/low bulbs, the only thing i do not like about them is that the "cap" or Shield that come with them cover the top and about 80% of the bulbs themselves. However the housings i got along with them are horrible. They are some crappy fake projectors from ebay, and to make things worse the background is black which accouts for little to no reflection. And they also have these stupid holes in them for "city lights" which cause alot of condensation on the inside of the housing.
So in trying to combat the lack of visibility for me I took the "cap/shield" off of the DDM headlights. This cause more visibility for me but TONS of glare for other drivers which to say the least is not safe at all.
Then i came across the conversion from LMCtruck.com http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cst/full.aspx?Page=66
but saw that it was only for 98-2002 cars (i have a 93-97), and i am not sure that they are compatable with the H4 bulbs.
So my question would something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/77-97...item35aef5af29 allow enough of a cap to keep the glare down and give a sharp cutoff, but also keep up my visibility. All input is greatly appreciated.

    Re: another HID question

Neither housing is designed for HID. That said, for a free form housing, that style will generally be better suited. But for the price, I rather doubt the original designer put much effort into computer controlled reflector placement to hone in on a good beam design, so unless someone has experience with those housings in particular, it's hard to say. They should effectively cap the tip of the bulb, but depending on how efficient or inefficient the reflectors are, that might not cut it. In any case, don't expect anything close to a "sharp cutoff" from any housing that style.

well the one from LMCtruck gave a good cutoff. But i have no way of knowing what bulb they take. Does anyone know what the LMC(h4666) conversion takes?

If you're talking about PN 36-0302 on this page, then it's a 9006 bulb.

Looks pretty impressive for a free-form. I went ahead and found them on eBay for you:

                  Re: another HID question

I have a '97 bird and I'm curious about setting up some HID as well. Just to clarify, I'd need to get a sealed beam to H4 conversion housing/projector, and then an H4 HID kit?

                  Something like http://www.coolprojectors.com/parts/.../PRO-OP-4X6-C/

                  or the ones Schlotzky posted?

yes an sealed to H4 would be the simplest way to achieve an HID on the 93-97. However you should go with the ones posted above by Schlotzkys. I currently have something very similar to the houseings you have posted and they are absolutley horrible. Spend your money wisley, take it from me. Its better to do it right the first time around.

Kewl. What's a reputable H4 kit? I see some pretty cheap ones on Ebay and I have a hard time believing I can do the conversion for less than 100$ total :P

it might be less, or a slight bit over. Get them from ddmtuning.com but make sure you get the H4 High/low bulb and not just the single H4. I thing they are around $50 shipped.
