  • Not your normal security light question.

OK a little back story first. A little over a year ago I purchased a 1997 Camaro that had blown head gaskets (not an issue). Replaced the head gaskets and car is running great, I just have a couple of issues that I have yet to solve and was hoping for a little insight.

1: The security light is ON. This is not a problem with the key or the VATS because the car starts and runs fine. I removed a hacked in alarm from under the dash just after I got the car. Someone had jumped two of the terminals on the original stock security system in order to bypass it. Does anyone know if the PROPER way to remove the security system in these cars, or the proper way to bypass it so the dash light is not on all the time?

2: The ABS INOP light is on MOST of the time. I have checked the connections to the sensors and they all look fine. As I said sometimes it goes out, when it is out I have my anti lock breaks. When it is on I don't, Any ideas on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I can only help ya with #2. Check the brake lights on your spoiler, that can cause an ABS INOP if they are burned out. Also, wheel speed sensors do go bad, another possibility.

Using a resistor to bypass the VATS is really the only way to do it. Right or wrong.

If you have a short in one of the wires attached to a wheel sensor you will get an intermittent ABS inop light. The short isn't showing itself when you don't get the light. Have the ABS code read when the light is on. If it comes up as a sensor replace that one.
