Hey guys i have '94 camaro....and here are the stats....i have optima yellow top a H/O alt 200 amp...and the big 3 upgrade...the problem im having is when the car is in park the voltage stays right around 12.7 thats with volume off...the weird thing is when i put the car in drive and with my foot on the brake it goes down to 10.7 and thats with no music on..while driving it goes back up to 12.7..and when the voltage gets low like around 10. something the speakers start to pop cuz its not getting enough current... i checked all my grounds and battery cables and they all seem to be clean and fine...the alternator was bought since november of last year and the battery was bought last summer...i never had this problem before..everything was perfect when it was purchased and charging around 14v....my thoughts is the voltage regulator...

How old is your yellow top? I just replaced a red top that was cutting all my power off while moving , it was about 5 years old.

i bought it last summer like around june...back then my voltage needle used to stay dead on 14v..i know the gauges in these cars are not accurate but i forgot to add i have a pionner flip up stereo that has "vehicle dynamics" and thats where i get my voltage readings from and the info on that stereo seems pretty accurate..on the cars gauge the needle is right at the tip of the red area...it just seems soo weird that in park its fine but in drive wen not moving it goes to 10v and while driving its fine...

Sounds like the battery or alternator is bad. What voltage does the battery have with the car off ? If lower then 12 volts put a charger on it. Then check the voltage output at the back of the alternator with the car at idle. Should be around 14 volts. Does your RPM's drop when you put the car in gear at idle if so that's why your voltage is dropping.

yea..i figured it was either or...im gonna get them both tested this week..the voltage while the car is off idk right now...but i will find out...i doubt it might be lower than 12v..cuz when i go to start it..it starts within 1 turn of the key..starts quick....with the car @ idle i saw around 13.4 today....the rpm between idle and the car in gear is the same...right around 800 rpm soo i dont understand why it goes down to 10. something in gear and normal in park???....this pretty much sucks..for my system atleast...im about to get either a capacitor or an extra batt for my system because i seriously dont wanna under power my subs and mids..you should see when i first start the car for the day the subs and mids move in and out without any signal going to them...thats cuz it seems like its getting low power but its not...
