I got a Pioneer DEH-P6600 HU for Christmas, but I'm a little confused about what size speakers my Firebird has. It has 10 speakers, and when I went to the Modifications Encyclopedia, it says that the rear speakers (in the hatch) are 4" speakers. I coulda sworn they were 6"x9" speakers, since I measured them with my tape measure. So are the speakers in the rear hatch area 4" speakers or 6"x9" speakers?

Also, can I hook this HU up with the 500w amp that came stock? Also, how should I wire up the amp with the speakers? Should I keep the stock way (4 channels in the HU power 4 tweeters, while the 10 in the amp power the speakers)? Pretty much all I want to do is replace all the speakers, while still keeping the same amp. Can I do this? And around how much would it cost for some decent speakers total?

Sorry for so many questions, but like I said, I'm a car audio newbie :D .

First off thats a nice stereo you got for Xmas

IF you want to replace ALL the speakers in yoru firebird it will cost you some $$$.

All you really have to replace is the speakers in the doors and the speakers in the rear area right next to where the passenger sits.

You COULD run those off the sorry *** monsoon amp but it will probrably be better off if you run them off the Pioneer HU, the reason i say this is because the stock speakers are 2 ohms and pretty much all after market speakers are 4 ohms, thus reducing the power output of the amp in half.

If you want to go loud then replace all 4 speakers and get a nice 4 channel amp, if your not really worried about fade & Balance you can get a 2 ch amp and runn all 4 speakers in 2 ohm load.

Yes, you can just swap out your Pioneer headunit with the stock one. Read the Mod Ency again, it's in there. ;) Remove the plastic grill in the back and you shall see.... 4"ers.

And here's a sweet link about replacing your speakers.

So should I not even bother replacing the rear speakers? The reason I want to replace all of the speakers is because all the driver's side speakers are blown (or at least I think they are, it may be the stock HU). And I guess you're right, they are 4" speakers. I just remember what the dust cover looked like, I forgot the tweeters weren't inside the speakers.

So I should just power the front door speakers and the rear sail speakers (near rear seats) with the HU, and forget the rear speakers?

Also, another question: I have T-tops, so what would be a good location if I was to add subs? The only place I could think of would be on the drivers side in the trunk, there is a little space where a sub might be able to be put. Otherwise, I would have to put them in the rear hatch area, in plain sight. This might attract some prowlers around here, which I really don't want.

I'm not really sure yet, but I don't think I'd add them 'till mid/late summer, after I get money from my summer job. Right now I have around $1000, but I need 4 new tires, so that'll set me back around $400. I also need some other random parts (I just bought it last summer, and haven't put it on the road yet. I'm still in the process of making it pass registration, and since NYS has such harsh requirements on '96 and up cars, I need to fix all that stuff first). If I get a job, that'll be a blessing, and I could spare some extra cash for this kinda stuff. These are mainly ideas right now, until I get my car on the road in spring. And since the car is in my dad's barn for the winter, it is hard to get in there and put the new HU in to see if that is the culpret of the thought to be blown driver's side speakers. I was hoping to buy the speakers before I get my car on the road though, so that is why I'm starting early to get ideas running.

Also, xmas break is quite boring when you don't have a winter car ;) .
