Any of you guys have a real computer system, LCD panel, dvd, etc installed in your bird?? IF U DO we wanna see some pics!!!!!

I was going to get an LCD install in mine and put a P1Ghz but there is no space anywhere, so I tried to make a bracket for my Sony Viao but I have no idea where I could install that, space is so limited.. any ideas?

I want to, but no. I was thinking about making a new consol with a few DIN spots in it for a LCD screen, DVD player and a CB.

I have a laptop that I leave on the seat next to me, when I goto street races and moroso....makes everyone think I have NAWS!!...hehe just runs OBD-2 diagnostics...kinda cool, you could just stick a laptop with video out under your seat, have a screen in place of your radio, and have your speakers hooked up to the audio on the lappy...then play mps's dvd's...etc...

I've got a hell of a PC set up in my car, Nikon plays with the damn computer for 20 minutes every time I see him. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the install. The really important part of the project was the custom shell for windows and the touchscreen lcd with an actual d-sub connector on it. Hopefully I can get ahold digital camera this weekend to take some pictures for ya.

You should start a thread or put some info here about what you did and how you did it. Theres threads all over this site about people interested in it. Also how much was your touchscreen and where did you get it?

I paid about $200 for the touch screen its a 10.4" with true VGA resolution, I got it off ebay. The only thing with that screen it is BIG for a car and needs a 5v sync signal coming off of the video card for it to work. I'll try and snag a digital camera at work tomorrow to get some pics of the install.

it shouldn't be to hard to put the actual computer hardware, minus the screen, in as long as you have basic computer building knowledge. all you have to do is reamove your sterio and empty the glove box adn remove some plastic from it as well. put the powersupply, motherboard, and hard drive in the glove box (makes it easy to work on) and place the dvd drive, and floppy if you really want, in the slot where the radio use to be (it will take some fabbing but will fit). now all you have to do is get a sound card that has rca out and run it to a home sterio preamp and run that to an aftermarket system. the screen will be the hard part. i have no idea were to put one other than to fab your own flip up on the top of the dash right above the center ac vents. as for a keyboard... get a wireless and just store it where you like (i suggest a radio controled not an IR keyboard).

If it were that easy i'd be pretty happy, you'll quickly find that having an open motherboard in a hostile environment is NOT ideal. Power conversion is an issue, video card signals, many many things. It seems really easy at first but if you want to do a nice install that is in the least bit reliable or usable while driving some real effort has to be put into it.
