Capable of 12 INCHES peak to peak?!!?! What can I say? I'm really just speechless!
Kudos to the engineers and fabricators that designed this beast. I'm sure it'll dominate the market for people who are looking for a $5000 driver that can move 16 cubic feet of air with each excursion. I mean, all that air just gets in the way anyway.
What's really impressive is how efficient it is without a box... it can reach down to 20Hz at 121dB just sitting there on the table. Now that's just silly.

Indeed. 121 @ 20 is not an easy feat.... but free-air?!?!!?

quote:
Originally posted by mcG: what kind of power would be needed to get the full potential out of that thing?

Depends. Remember, that is just the motor. Each "subwoofer" is custom made. SO that's 46 pounds for JUST the motor! Also, power handling is completely dependant on the enclosure.....er, lack there of in this case! :D

I think I'm going to look into buying one. My buddy and I installed a custom-made cone in the hatch of my SS at our car stereo shop. I've been looking for a magnet that could drive it though. Here's a picture of it at the the front entrance to a local car audio show. We had to soak that cone in alcohol for 2 days before it was pliable enough to fit into the hatch glass space.
It's a custom job by Ultimate. They built us a 42" cone. After it was stretched to fit, it ended up with an aspect ratio closer to that of a 6x9. Of course, its an "indoors only" car now, until we can fab a waterproof grill.

That's a serious car 96firebird311! I don't thinking you'll be LOL'ing so hard when the bass coming out of this thing shakes so hard that all the girls' panties vibrate down to their ankles.
Then who'll be LOL'ing?
