i got the light a few times. i read once something about not turning them on until you go above 60 and then drop back down. below it a couple times. i dont know if theres any validity to it at all. probably has something to do with the engine heating to a certain temperature before you can turn them on and not get the light. either way, after i start the car a few times my light always goes off. i wouldnt worry about it too much.

on a side note...
before i did the switch... i would sit at a redlight, and just watch my temp guage climb to about 220-240 degree range...
then when i drove it would drop back down..
but for some reason.. when it would hit that high of a temperature my oil pressure dropped to below half way mark.
well i just got back in from letting my car idle for nearly 20 min with fans on high...(after driving car around to warm it up) and the temp stayed right at 180ish.. (180 degree Thermo)
now im thinking about getting a 160 degree thermostat. good/bad idea?96 Camaro M5. Driving above 40 mpg with fans on will throw a code - The PCM checks to see if fans are off, and senses that they are still on.
Leaving fans on high will throw a code - The PCM tries to turn off high fans below a certain temp, but senses that it failed.
There's a few other situations, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.
It will be throwing either the first one or both:
DTC P1651 Fan 1 Relay Control Circuit
DTC P1652 Fan 2 Relay Control circuit (not "Powertrain Induced Chassis Pitch Output Circuit" as listed in the Tech archive)
It's basically telling theres something wrong with your fans because they're on when they're not supposed to be.
<blockquote>quote:</font><hr>but for some reason.. when it would hit that high of a temperature my oil pressure dropped to below half way mark.<hr></blockquote>
As temperature increases oil's viscosity (thickness) decreases causing there to be less pressure.
It's always been my opinion that 160 is too low.

There are some good looking switches that someone over on LS1tech.com makes... great looking switches, very clean. :D

in order to keep a ses light from coming on, you need to keep some voltage to the computer, this can be acomplished by using a resistor on the fan ground,
or with some electroncis inserted into the fan wiring (like the slp switch)
The one on my car does not set a code,

slow, what value does the resistor need to be? I've never seen that mentioned in any of the directions I've seen. That would be nice.
hawgs, who do I have to sleep with to get my activation email from LS1Tech.com? I've already sent them an email and its been a couple of days.~Derrick <a href=\"http://www.appstate.edu/~do54457/\" target=\"_blank\"><i>My Webpage</i></a><br /><b>\'96 3.8L V6 M5 Firebird Y87</b> | <b>162.8 RWHP</b> / <b>196.7 RWTQ</b> <br /><b>•</b> SLP CAI <b>•</b> <a href=\"http://tech.firebirdv6.com/y87.html\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Y87</b> Package</a> - 3.23s <b>•</b> 180º thermo w/ fan switch <b>•</b> TB spacer from DEE<br />1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4

http://makoto.dyndns.org/fan_switch.asp that is the site, that i have found, that will work with the "tap in" style fan mods,
it uses a 47 ohm resistor in the ground path, so the relay does not get a full 12 volts to the coil, but is enough that it will activate the relay, but not set the computer wire to 0 volts.
the high speed on the ls1/lt1 cars, uses 2 relays, so you use 2 47 ohm in parallel for the high current side.
use 2 watt resistors as the 1 watt are 100% capacity for the high speed fan.
......
The slp plug in fan mod, does not do it the way above, but they use some electronics to prevent the ground from flowing back to the computer, and to keep a voltage source to the computer side, even when the fan is turned on. This is the way mine is wired.
