• Emergency Cap question

OK well I hooked up my new cap 2 days ago. I had one problem, that the wire comming from the battery wasn't long enough to come to the top of the cap through the back. Now I have some crimps to hook up the 4 guage, but my question is will it mess up the cap to unhook the wire?? Like will I have to charge it again and will I have to get a new charging piece?(the charging piece looked like a little lightbulb) Should I unhook the fuse before I fix it??
Thanx in advance for the help

I'm a little confused. Are you asking if it will mess up the cap if you disconnect the + wire from it? No, it won't. I think that's what you're saying....

yea, if you charged the cap, it will stay charged. and WATCH IT, the cap is like a battery now. if you touch the + and - terminals together, lookout. and if you touch the + to a ground in the car, watchout also.

but you'll be fine unhooking it.

Yeah thats basically what I'm sayin but it might take awhile to unhook to power wire, then use a crimp to connect the new wire to it, put electrical tape all around it so it doesnt come unhooked, then install the new wire to the cap. I'm just worried that when I disconnect it, it might lose too much power cuz it'll be off for at least a few minutes.
Trust me I already know about the +/- thing. My stepdad helped me hook it up(hes an electrical engineer) cuz I had a bad experience when I tried to install my last cap. It scared the **** outta me.

caps will keep their power for a while (days, weeks) when you unplug them.

As for crimping and electrical tape, im not too keen on the sound of that. They make an attachment thats about $10 or so. Trust me, its money well spent. Basially it goes on the + terminal of the cap, and provides connections like an amp (allen) to secure the wires. Id strongly consider one if i were you. Plus, it provides a much better connection and power transfer than the crimping rings do.
